PROCEDURE TEXT
1. Meaning of Procedure Text
Procedure text is a type of text in English that contains goals and steps to make or do something related to that goal. The function of this text is to show how to do something through successive steps so that the reader can reach his goal.
2. Features of Procedure Text
The following are the characteristics of Procedure text:
* Using Simple Present Tense.
* Using the imperative sentence which is a form of sentence that is usually used to give orders. For example, don't mix, turn on, cut into slices and so on.
* Using the connective of sequence (then, while, next, and so on).
* Using numbering (first, second, third, and so on).
* Using action verbs. For example, turn, plug, put, and so on).
* Using adverbs. For example: slowly, carefully, and so on.
3. Types of Procedure Text
Here are the types of procedure text that you need to know.
* Procedure text that describes how to operate / use something. For example, how to use a camera, how to use a rice cooker.
* Procedure text that provides instructions in carrying out certain activities. For example, how to play guitar, how to make a brownie.
* Procedure text related to tips for living life. For example, how to be successful in life, how to make yourself happy.
4. Generic Structure of Procedure Text
Here is the structure of the procedure text.
* Goal/Aim: contains the intent and purpose of the related procedure text.
* Materials: contains the materials needed to perform the steps of a procedure text.
* Steps: a list of sequential steps to complete the procedure text stages.
* Result: the result of the steps that have been done.
5. Purpose of Procedure Text
The communicative purpose of procedure text is to be able to describe that something will be done according to the rules through various clear and orderly steps.
In other words, this type of text can provide instructions on how to do something by taking the right order.
6. Procedure Text Characteristics
- Using imperative sentence patterns (commands), for example, cut, don't mix, and so on;
- Using action verbs, for example turn, put, don't, mix, and so on;
- Using connectives to sort activities, for example, then, while, and so on.
- Using adverbials (adverbs) to be able to state in detail the time, place, and an accurate way, for example for five minutes, 2 hours, and so on.
- Using the simple present tense.
- Usually use numbering, firstly, secondly, next, then, and so on.
- Explain the ingredients that are available, although not always present.

1) First, you will read silently to understand the procedure texts below. Make sure that you know the meaning of every word. If you find some words that you do not understand their meaning yet. Then, consult the dictionary.

1. First of all, press the locking catch
and slide the cover then lift it off the phone.
2. After that, push two catches in the
opposite directions and remove the battery.

Step :
1. First, rinse a cup of rice in cold water. Rub the rice softly under the running water. Do not rub the rice too long, because it will lose the nutrients. Wash the rice once again. Then drain the water from the rice.
2. Next, add a cup of water. If you cook rice using an electronic rice cooker, pay attention to the water ratio. The rice and the water ratio is usually 1 part rice to 1 part water.
3. Then, place the cooking pot in the rice cooker properly. Cover the pot. Select the cooking button right after the light on the rice cook cook turns.
4. Finally, when the rice has been cooked and is resilent , flip through the rice very gently using a rice spatula

5. Fifth, wait until the gun get warmer.
6. Sixth, squeeze the trigger gently to check if the glue stick has changed into liquid form.
7. Finaly, you can apply it on any surface that you want to stick by using this glue gun.

Sample Procedure Text about Food (pancakes)
How to Make Fluffy Pancakes
Ingredients:
* 5 eggs
* 40 grams of sugar
* 60 grams of purpose flour
* 2 grams of baking powder
* Salt
* 1 teaspoon vanilla extract
* Honey
Instructions:
1. First, separate the egg yolk and the white. Then beat the egg white until stiff.
2. In a separated bowl, mix the egg yolks with sugar until the sugar melts.
3. Next, add the flour, baking powder, and salt. Then stir until all the ingredients mixed.
4. Slowly pour all the mixture ingredients into one bowl. Then add vanilla extract and mix it.
5. Then heat a pan over a low-medium heat and coat it with butter. Use a 1/4 cup measure to scoop and drop the batter into the pan so that you get evenly-sized pancakes.
6. Cook until the first side is golden brown, or until the top surface forms bubbles.
7. Flip and repeat on the other side. Adjust the heat accordingly.
8. Finally, serve the pancakes while it is still warm with honey. You can add some fruits like grapes or strawberry to make it more delicious.
